外国でのビジネス
今日、他国へのブランチオフィス展開の話をする機会がありました。
ものの本によると、会社のカルチャーを重要視して、そのカルチャーを理解し、体現できる人をブランチマネージャーとして送り込むべきだと書いてありました。果たしてこれは本当でしょうか。少し考えさせられました。
私はこれに対して異論があります。私がおもうのは、他国で成功を収めるには、その国のカルチャーを会社のカルチャーより優先させるべきであるということです。
例えば、アメリカの会社が日本に進出してきて犯す一番のミスは、契約範囲内で仕事をこなし、Professional Distanceを意識しすぎることだとおもいます。日本では、契約外のことでも「つきあい」としてこなしたほうがいい例が日常です。また、製品に関して言えば、アメリカでは最新で量が豊富で簡単な製品が好まれる傾向にあるが、日本では最新ではあるが実績があって、コンパクトで、複雑だが機能が多く、なにより品質が良い製品が好まれるとおもいます。このような微妙な違いを吸収することは可能だと思っていますが、それはこの違いを意識できるかどうかにかかっているとおもいます。この違いを認識できれば、ギャップをなんらかのかたちで埋めることが出来るとおもいますが、この違いに気づかないでいれば、このギャップは不可思議な現象として頭を悩ますことになってしまうでしょう。
中国進出も同じことだと思います。中国では、安いことと権威のあるものが多分第一で、その他は二の次でしょう。また、ビジネスをするにあたって政治家とのつながりを持っていたほうが圧倒的に有利なのも特別な側面だとおもいます。
他国に攻め込むときは、その国の案内人つまり現地で採用したスタッフに基本的なことは任せ、管理する側は管理に徹するべきであるというのが現在の私の結論です。変わって行くかもしれませんが。もちろん、完全放任主義ではなく、カルチャーの違いを感じたときは現地のスタッフに明確な説明を求めるべきだとおもいます。肝心なのは”違い”を知識として得ることだと思います。
